‘Himself no slouch when it came to work, George Steiner once asked a Soviet dissident how he got through so much. “House arrest, Steiner. House arrest.” Alas, so far as work is concerned, I haven’t yet noticed much difference.’
This latest signed London Review Bookshop limited edition of Alan Bennett’s diary is both a first, and the continuation of a series. Spanning a year, as ever, it begins in March 2020 and ends in March 2021, describing the beginning and the middle – if not quite the end – of the Covid-19 pandemic, with never-before-published entries from the first months of this year. Printed on 150 gsm Logan Wove paper and numbered 1 to 350, these editions have been quarter-bound in a Bamberger Kaliko bookcloth with Sirio paper sides, and feature a cover image by Peter Campbell and six original illustrations by Jon McNaught.
All copies are signed and numbered.
